How to fix a broken denture

What to do if your denture breaks

The first thing you should do is maintain your composure and contact our support staff to schedule an appointment as soon as possible. All denture emergencies are handled with expertise and fluency.

Next, gather any fragments of your damaged denture and any stone models your denturist may have given you when your denture was created (this will save both time and money).

Are you aware that the majority of denture repairs can be completed while you wait? You can return to your life sooner because our lab is on-site! A broken denture may occasionally be brought in by a friend or family member for someone who is housebound or unable to visit the clinic in person. Your denturist can evaluate the damaged denture to determine if it can be fixed without you or whether you must come to the office in person (this is where the stone models will be important to bring).

Common causes of denture breakage

  1. Accidents: You dropped your denture in the sink or on the floor, causing it to break.

  2. Wear over time: Taking on and taking off your partial dentures, skipping regular check-ups and necessary adjustments, using abrasive cleaners, and the overall age of your dentures.

  3. Improper Fit: As a result of bone resorption and/or potential weight loss, your mouth is continually changing.

Our Denturists at Daien Denture Clinic recommend denture Relines every 2-3 years and Replacement Dentures every 5-7 years.

Thinking of repairing your own denture?

Please reconsider!

Denturists and lab technicians who have received considerable training in how to handle lab materials in a safe, controlled environment are specifically trained to handle denture repairs. Putting over-the-counter glues or adhesives in your mouth could be harmful to your health because they may be hazardous if ingested.

Although "Denture Repair Kits" are available online or in select stores, they are not always successful and are only intended as a short-term solution. Any warranties that are in place may be void if you repair your dentures yourself. Let the experts at Daien Denture Clinic handle it.

Does my insurance cover repairs?

Your repair may be covered by your dentures warranty, if applicable. We can send a pre-authorization to your dental insurance provider if you have one to find out how much your plan could cover. You will be liable for the expense if we can't obtain a pre-authorization in advance or if we don't get a prompt answer. The claim would then be sent to your insurance provider by our support staff, which would make the claim payable to the policyholder. All costs will be discussed with you prior to proceeding with your repair.

Ways to avoid breakage

  1. Storage: It's crucial to properly preserve your dentures when not wearing them. In an airtight container, keep dentures submerged in room-temperature water. This will prevent them from drying out, being knocked over, or being chewed by domestic pets.

  2. Be gentle: Use a clean washcloth or towel to gently wipe down your dentures. In this manner, if they are dropped, they will land gently.

  3. Yearly Checkups: The longevity of your denture and your oral health both depend on yearly examinations. A yearly appointment with your Denturist at Daien Denture Clinic will enable them to examine your dentures, respond to any queries or issues you might have, and maintain the validity of your warranty (if applicable).
